Over Winter Break more than 100 Eller students participated in Externships in the form of one-day job shadows.
Gianna Turek (Finance) shadowed Sean Ostrander, a Head Volleyball coach at Robert Morris University in Chicago, IL.
Why did you want to do this externship?
I sought out an externship to gain valuable information and advice from a professional in the sports industry. Since I am interested in Finance and Sports, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to learn about the two in one setting.
What did you do during this job shadow experience?
Sean Ostrander provided me with the opportunity to tour the facilities and meet other head coaches and athletic administrators. From there, we delved into the business side associated with having a head coach position. Mr. Ostrander showed me the various components of his budget and scholarship disbursements.
What did you learn as a result of the externship?
I advise you to apply for any externships that are available within Eller. Our Professional Development Center does a wonderful job of connecting students with potential employers, thus an externship is the best way to get your foot in the door. I highly urge you to apply for one as they become readily available.
