Jessica DeNise studied Business Management and now works at Fisher Investments in Portland, OR.
Why did you choose to work for Fisher Investments? I didn’t want to be a little fish in a big pond. I wanted to be challenged to produce impactful initiatives!
Joining a rapidly growing company of 2,000 is much different than working for a local branch of a company of 10,000!
Tell us about your job responsibilities and title. I am a Recruiting Manager. I manage a team of 17 Recruiters and Coordinators that help us to bring in exceptional talent. My team is based in the Bay Area, our Portland Area office, and London!
Our main goal is to hit the hiring goals of the firm; This year we will hire 400+ people globally and that takes a ton of time, energy, coordination, data and heart!
What do you enjoy most about working at Fisher Investments? The opportunity. I am a Management major, not a Finance major, yet taking a job with an investment firm was the best decision I could have made for my career!
I have been with Fisher for 6 years and I have had 3 different roles; Client Events Coordinator, Marketing Manager and Recruiting Manager. They believed in me as a capable person and gave me new and unique challenges to help drive business progress. It has been a personal and professionally life changing experience.
What is your fondest Eller memory? Winning the Case Competition! My team worked so hard to internalize our presentation, go above and beyond with deliverables and truly be passionate about our product. It was a BLAST!
What advice do you have for Eller students seeking a similar career path? Stop thinking that the perfect role exists. You will not be working in the same role when you are 35 that you took when you were 22. You need time to figure out what you enjoy!
Take a chance, learn, push yourself, develop and add value. Opportunity and growth will come.
