Alumni Spotlight- Michael Tancredo, Grad School

Eller PDC Coordinator Alumni Stories

Michael Tancredo graduated in May 2016 with a major in Accounting. He is now working to get his graduate degree in Accounting at the University of Arizona.

Why did you decide to go to graduate school? The main reason I decided to attend graduate school was to fulfill the 150 credit hour requirement for the CPA exam. I also felt like my accounting education was incomplete and that I needed to learn more. Here I was with an accounting degree after taking one tax course and zero not for profit accounting courses, it just didn’t feel right. The MAcc program has given me that laser focus in accounting that I wanted.

What do you hope to do after you complete the program? After I complete the program I’m planning on perusing a career in public accounting as an auditor. Also,  I was a transfer student from Pima before entering Eller so one day I want to use this masters degree to teach at a community college.

What advice do you have for students looking to pursue the same advanced degree? If you are an Eller accounting major and you want to enter into the Eller Master of Accounting, keep your grades up! If you maintain a certain GPA you wont be required to take the GMAT or get letterers of recommendation for you application. If you do that the application process is as easy as getting online and hitting “apply”. Also, apply to become a teaching assistant. Not only are there financial benefits but  its a great way to work with your program and gain professional experience.
