What is a typical day at your internship like? I arrived at the office at about 8:00 AM every morning. The first hour was dedicated to reading the news and catching up on what is happening in the world that could potentially have an impact on the markets. Throughout the rest of the morning I was working on my research for the week having to do with competitors, similar industries and ratio comparison. The afternoon consisted of listening in on CRM calls to different investors. Some of the investors included company pension funds, university endowments, state retirement funds, etc.
What advice you have for other students looking for a similar internship? When searching for an internship you need to start early. Recruiting season for most firms is in the early fall. When starting early you will put yourself in a better position to landing your dream internship. Another big piece of advice is you need to use your network. That immediately puts you ahead of the person next to you. Building your network early is absolutely crucial.
What has been your favorite part of the internship so far? My favorite part of the internship was learning from real world professionals in the financial capital of the world. Being immersed in the office and industry enhanced my learning an incredible amount. New York City is a very fast paced city and that set the tone for the internship and the summer as a whole.
