Natalie is studying both Accounting and Economics and is expected to graduate in May 2018. This summer she worked as a Business Risk Advisory Intern for Deloitte in Phoenix, Arizona. Natalie was able to rent a house with 3 other Eller students also interning in Phoenix for the summer.
How did you land this internship?
I networked with Deloitte at Eller’s Meet the Firms event, applied via Wildcat JobLink, and completed two rounds of interviews that culminated in an internship offer.
What was a typical day like?
A “day in the life” varied depending on which client I served. At one client I evaluated accounting processes for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and company regulations. At another client I met with the management team to evaluate the client’s accounting for joint ventures; outside of meetings at this client, my team and I wrote observations and created presentations to document our findings and convey them to the board of directors at the client.
What did you find most challenging about the internship?
The most challenging aspect of my clients was learning to prioritize well. There were constantly new demands for deliverables so it was necessary to communicate with my team to determine the level of importance and deadline for each task.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship?
I received particularly positive feedback for my verbal and written communication. These skills were developed by my coursework in Eller.
