Caroline is a Management Information Systems major planning to graduate in May 2018. This summer she worked as an Internal Audit and Financial Advisory Technology Consultant for Protiviti in Phoenix, Arizona.
What was a typical day like?
Working at Protiviti was more than just an internship. My co-workers treated me like I was a full-time consultant and gave me the same responsibilities that someone in that position would typically have. The work day was from 8am to 5pm. Everyday, the location of the internship varied based on the client that my team was working on. I worked closely with my team. This was a great way to learn as it fostered an open environment for asking questions and working through problems together.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
My favorite part of the experience was The Intern Challenge in Orlando, Florida. This occurred at the beginning of the internship and was a great way to kick off training. I got to meet all the interns throughout the United States that would be working with Protiviti for the summer. We had 10 days to bond, learn about the consulting world, collaborate with our Executive team, volunteer, and even got to go to Disney World.
What did you find most challenging about the internship?
It was challenging to get to know people within the office as we don’t always work there. However, there were many events and opportunities for the interns to meet everyone. They made it easy to integrate yourself into the culture.
What advice do you have for other students seeking a similar internship?
I think that if you have never heard of a company, or the industry, you should apply anyways. Make sure to do your research. I never expected to work for this company, but have enjoyed the culture and the opportunities that I experienced.
