Eller PDC Coordinator Student Stories

Eric Kaufman is a Management major graduating in May 2018. This summer, he interned at Med-Smart Inc as their HR Assistant in Henderson, NV. Housing was not provide for this internship, however, Eric is from Henderson, NV he was able to live at home.

How did you land this internship? I landed this internship by having connections within the company and also having previously interned with this company in past summers. I liked the company and they liked my work ethic so I reached out to them and asked if they needed any help over the summer and they told me they did. From that point, we worked out terms of my availability for the summer.

What was a typical day like? A typical day started at 8:00 AM and ended at 5:00 PM. I had numerous responsibilities throughout the day Including managing over employees at various hospitals where the company employs people at, updating employee files whenever necessary, on-boarded new hires whenever new employees were hired into the company. There was a weekly meeting that the executive team had and I became a part of those meetings. In those meetings, company and employee performance was discussed.

What advice do you have for other students seeking a similar internship? For other students looking for a similar internship, be willing to take on new challenges and make connections. Connections are a key part in being successful in any job. I was successful because I was well liked and I got to know a lot of executives and employees within the company. Getting out of your comfort zone is also crucial because if you do not, then you will never get the full experience and will not get to learn as much. I was forced to get out of my comfort zone by working out in the field at difference facilities and I had to talk to a lot of people on a daily basis for me to have success. I was up for this challenge and I pushed myself to keep going every day until I was more comfortable.

Anything else you would like to share about your internship? It was the best 15 weeks I have had!!! I could not have been more happy to have gotten the opportunity to work for a company like Med Smart Inc.
