Internship Spotlight – Hannah Watts, Shamrock Foods Company

Hannah is a Marketing major graduating in 2019. This summer she worked as a Corporate Marketing Intern for Shamrock Foods Company in Phoenix, Arizona.

What was a typical day like?

I tackled a variety of assignments that came across my desk each day. I was primarily responsible for content creation, collection, and editing for event collateral, internal communications, and digital properties. I also assisted in planning and executing both Shamrock’s Supplier Summit and 2017 EXPO. But regardless of the tasks that day, every day was filled with several team meetings and some socializing.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

It was very rewarding working on assignments that actually made a difference in the company and helped my busy team finish projects; I enjoyed seeing the results of my work and applications of my recommendations. My favorite part was definitely that I felt useful and valuable.

If you worked on a big project, please describe it.

My long-term summer project included conducting a competitor analysis on customer engagement and identifying best practices for corporate social platforms to ultimately give recommendations to improve Shamrock’s customer engagement strategies.

What did you find most challenging about the internship?

There was a definite learning curve coming into a new company and industry. It took time to learn the industry language and company terminology. That was the most challenging part of the internship — adjusting.
