Jake Shepp is an Economics and MIS major graduating in May 2018. This summer, Jake interned at Bloomberg L.P. as their Financial Product Analytics in San Francisco, CA. For this internship, Bloomberg gave every intern a housing stipend, however it was the intern’s responsibility to find housing.
How did you land this internship?
I landed this Internship after talking to Jeff Welter in the PDC. He listened to what I was interested in, and then told me that it sounded a lot like this company he knew of called Bloomberg. I dug around their website, realizing that he was right, and ended up submitting an application. Next thing you know they flew me out to San Francisco for a super day and then offered me the position.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
My favorite part of the experience was being able to be in a city like San Francisco for the Summer. It was exciting to explore a new place and meet new people! There was always something to do, and great sushi to try.
What advice do you have for other students seeking a similar internship?
My advice for other students looking for a similar internship would be to definitely talk to your career coach. I would’ve never known about applying to Bloomberg if I didn’t talk to Jeff, and better yet, your career coach may know some alumni at the company to help get you started!
How did Eller prepare you for your internship?
Eller prepared me tremendously for this internship. By taking BCOM 314, I was able to stand out as a strong presenter during my many projects. It also helped prepare me for working on projects in a group style format, which was extremely valuable.
