Lydia is both a Marketing and Entrepreneurship major expecting to graduate in May of 2018. This summer she worked as a Loyalty Marketing Intern for Williams Sonoma, Inc. in San Francisco, California.
How did you land this internship?
I found Williams Sonoma, Inc. internship opportunities through Wildcat JobLink during the spring semester. I sent my application through the online portal and followed directions to email the recruiter directly. After an initial phone screening I was placed as a candidate for the Loyalty Marketing Intern position. I had two interviews with my hiring managers: a Senior Analyst and the VP of Customer Relationship Marketing. I received my offer within a few weeks!
If you worked on a big project, please describe it.
My main intern project over the summer revolved around how to create the best customer experience to acquire and engage loyalty program members under all Williams Sonoma, Inc. brands. I was given the opportunity to speak to key team members that support the loyalty program, and conducted in-store and online research. Throughout the summer I created a deliverable and presentation with my research, analysis, and recommendations. I presented my final recommendations to the Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Talent Officer, and various other teams, and interns at Williams Sonoma, Inc.
What did you find most challenging about the internship?
The most challenging aspect was during the onboarding process the first two weeks of the internship. I was selected as the marketing intern for the summer and being the only intern in the entire department was challenging at first. As a new Loyalty Marketing team member I was able to adapt to the learning curve and understand more about all of the different teams that we work with.
What advice do you have for other students seeking a similar internship?
My advice would be to keep an open mind and be proactive throughout the recruitment process. Follow up with recruiters and tailor your resume to relate to the specific job descriptions.
