Yuan is double majoring in both Marketing and Management Information Systems expecting to graduate in May 2018. This summer she worked as a Summer Analyst for Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City, Utah.
What was a typical day like?
I felt like a full time analyst most of the time. I was given the same responsibilities and also held to almost the same standards. I spent my days on the desk, networking throughout the organization, and working on the intern projects. Sometimes I forgot that I was just an intern for the summer!
What was your favorite part of the experience?
I loved the people I worked with. Goldman Sachs really emphasizes the importance of a positive attitude and teamwork, so everyone I worked with was extremely amiable, intelligent and competent. They were always willing to answer any dumb questions I had and provide continuous feedback throughout the internship.
What advice do you have for other students seeking a similar internship?
While it’s important to perform well, you stand out even more when you have a positive attitude and a willingness to try! Though I had no idea what I was doing the first few weeks of the internship, they reassured me that the technical knowledge was something they could teach me, but a bright attitude is something that is always highly valued and greatly appreciated.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship?
I had many presentations in front of VP’s, Managing Directors, managers and the rest of my team where I was really able to use all the public presentation techniques BCOM had taught me. Additionally, the soft skills I learned, such as emails and memos, were also complimented on by my peers and manager.
