What did you find most challenging about your internship? The most challenging part of the internship by far was the independence factor. We constantly faced rejection throughout the internship with people who were not interested in the services we offered. Being forced to constantly evaluate what I needed to improve with my business and make changes took discipline, and this was the most difficult challenge to overcome.
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? The advice I would give is to do your research and start looking for an internship as soon as possible. This gives you more options and the opportunity to eventually find an internship that best suits your career goals. When you get into the internship, network as much as possible because this will help you significantly when you ultimately look for a full-time role.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship? Eller puts a major focus on career preparation in addition to just classroom learning. I was able to perfect my resume with the career coaches, and get a much better idea of what my options were for internships and career paths. This allowed me to choose an internship that would best fit my career goals. In addition, collaborating with other students is something that happens in every Eller class, and this is something you will need to do in any internship you find.
