Dream Job Spotlight – Mackenzie Richards, E&J Gallo Winery

Eller PDC Coordinator Student Stories

Mackenzie Richards is majoring in Finance and graduating in May 2018. After graduation, Mackenzie will be a Sales Representative at E&J Gallo Winery in Southern California.

What is the position you have accepted?  Sales Representative

How did you find this position? I first heard about the company in a marketing class my first semester of Eller but learned about the position at the 2017 Fall Eller Career Fair.

Tell us about the process of interviewing with this company. After finding them at the career fair, I applied and had been asked back for an interview within a few weeks. I had two on campus interviews before receiving an offer. I believe the entire process was between one month and six weeks.

What previous experience have you had that you think contributed to your success securing this position? (ex. campus involvement, leadership, past internship) I believe there were several factors that helped me with Gallo. First, the executive position I held in my sorority, Pi Beta Phi, played a large role in securing this position because it helped me develop organizational and leadership skills. Also, I think BCOM back during first semester Eller helped prepare me because I learned to become more comfortable talking about myself and to work with people I didn’t know before the class.

What are you most looking forward to about your position/company?  I’d say I’m most excited to interact with clients in the field. I love that I get to visit clients on site rather than sit behind a desk all day. No matter how many horror stories I have heard about the world of sales, I’m excited to be able to meet new people and face new challenges.

Any word of advice you could give to your fellow Eller Students?  The number one thing I tell students is to always be yourself and confident in what you have to offer. You were accepted to Eller for a reason and you are continuing to grow your knowledge and skills every day here. And number two is take advantage of every opportunity you can to expand your knowledge and better yourself. You will meet new people and potentially discover a new skill or career path that you would never have found in your daily routine.
