Aly Gotfried is an Accounting and MIS double major graduating in 2019. She interned this summer for KPMG as the IT Audit and Assurance Intern in Raleigh, North Carolina.
What was a typical day like? No two days were the same! Some days were filled with lots of meetings for walkthroughs with clients, while others were filled with testing controls and preparing work papers. I got to see both internal and external auditing clients which gave me a wide variety of experiences.
What was your favorite part of the experience? My favorite part was the people I got to work with! I worked with not only my team out of Raleigh, but also those in the Charlotte and Atlanta offices. Everyone was always willing to help answer questions and give me internship and overall career advice. Additionally, because the Raleigh office is so small, the other interns and I became really good friends!
If you worked on a big project, please describe it below: One of the clients I was working on recently acquired another company so I got to see what it takes for a company to become SOX compliant when they never had before. I got to help with the integration of their North America offices as well as their offices in Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and China.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship? All of my course content became very useful in my understanding of IT Audit processes. There were very few topics I was unfamiliar with going into my internship. Additionally, I was very comfortable with excel and even helped other interns with certain functions!
Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? No, my employer did not provide any housing or transportation assistance.
