Andreina Valenzuela is a double major in Marketing and Entrepreneurship and will be graduating in May 2019. She interned this summer for Altria as the Territory Sales Manager in Salt Lake City, Utah.
How did you get this internship? Last summer I attended the National ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America) Convention in Las Vegas, NV. The company hosted a luncheon and I learned about the company’s values and mission. During some networking events, a recruiter began to talk to me about the position and I went through the interview process, which led to my summer offer.
What was your favorite part of the experience? My favorite part of my experience was giving my first real world presentation to a major key account company and gave recommendations that will potentially be implemented into that company. My other favorite part is having the ability to travel around the United States and to meet new people almost everyday. Most of all how much I learned and grew both professionally and personally. What really made it the best experience was that I did it with my best friend!
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? Advice I would give to other students is to not be afraid to take an opportunity outside your comfort zone. Sometimes you may find yourself not interested in a certain position or industry, but that may lead to one of the best experiences of your life and allow you to grow both professionally and personally.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship? Eller really prepared me for the group work and analytical work of my internship. It also helped me to be open to learning new things and applying some basics that I learned within my stats, accounting, and marketing classes to be applied in my position.
Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? My employer provided assistance for housing and transportation.
Anything else you would like to share about your internship experience? The picture I added is from when I traveled at Las Vegas, NV for my monthly unit meeting where I had the opportunity to stay at the Bellagio and work with my team through team bonding exercises.
