Daniela Cuevas is a Finance major and will be graduating in May of 2020. She interned this summer for J.P. Morgan as the Investment Banking Summer Analyst in New York City, New York.
How did you get this internship? I participated in an insight program my freshman year called the Freshman Experience. From there, I formed relationships with professionals from the bank and was able to land an internship offer during my sophomore year!
What was your favorite part of the experience? My favorite part of the experience was getting to work with Fortune 500 companies. They were all companies that I had always been a consumer of and being able to work on the other side opened up my perspective on the business world.
If you worked on a big project, please describe it below: A project I worked on that went public was a spin off of Madison Square Garden’s sports businesses. It was great to work on with so many professionals and I was able to learn a lot about the industry. The assets being spun off included the New York Rangers and the New York Knicks.
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? I would say to never underestimate your capabilities. No internship is “unreachable”. If you are determined, passionate and driven to learn this would be a great internship. It allows you to work with many different companies in a given industry. Just show that you want to learn!
How did Eller prepare you for your internship? Eller prepared me for the internship by polishing my presentation and communication skills. I had an end of the summer final project and received feedback that my presentations skills were professional and impressive. I have to thank Eller for this!
Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? My employer provided financial assistance for housing.
