Internship Spotlight – Ellen Savarese, Comcast NBCUniversal

Eller PDC Coordinator Student Stories

Ellen Savarese is a Finance major and will be graduating in May 2019.  She interned this summer for Comcast NBCUniversal in Denver, Colorado as the Finance Intern.

How did you get this internship? I met Kristina, the Comcast NBCUniversal recruiter, at the Eller Expo during my sophomore year. We had great conversation, and I loved the things that she told me about the company. When junior year rolled around, I found her at the Expo again, and she remembered me and my interest in the company. She was such an incredible resource for me during the recruiting/application/interviewing process, and then throughout my internship as well! I am so glad that I made a connection with her early on.

What was your favorite part of the experience? My favorite part of the experience was meeting so many incredible new people. Every person I met was welcoming, kind, and enthusiastic about their experience with Comcast NBCUniversal. I didn’t feel like there was a strong company hierarchy, I felt like I could talk to and learn from everybody in the office. I even had the senior director of my division take time out of his day to teach me how to use the office printer! All summer, little things like that showed me that I had found the right company for me.

What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? Make connections in companies early! Go to the Eller Expo during your freshman and sophomore year and introduce yourself to as many recruiters as possible. Even if you are not sure that you want to pursue a career with a certain company, make the connection anyway! You never know what will interest you in the future, and it’s so helpful to have a diverse network of connections who can help you find the perfect job.

How did Eller prepare you for your internship? Eller prepared me for my internship by offering an incredibly diverse array of classes. Even if you are a “finance” intern, or a “marketing” intern, or an “accounting” intern, so many of your projects will require a working knowledge of other parts of the company. This summer, I had projects in finance, operations, accounting, and MIS. My Eller coursework gave me the confidence to tackle those projects, even though some of them were outside my traditional comfort zone.

Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? My employer provided housing assistance.

Anything else you would like to share about your internship experience? I did receive a full-time offer to join Comcast NBCUniversal’s full-time Finance Rotation Program after graduation, and I plan on accepting the offer.
