Hannah Sher is a Marketing major and will graduate in May 2020. She interned this summer for The Rialto Theatre as the Marketing Intern in Tucson, Arizona.
How did you get this internship? I got this internship after asking about volunteer opportunities with The Rialto Theatre. I wanted to get more involved with the music industry and the head of marketing informed me about it. Though I had no expectation of getting an internship this summer, I could not be more grateful for the digital marketing experience it’s provided me!
What was a typical day like? A typical day starts with me arranging posters around the Rialto that are relevant to the date and audience that will see it next. Then, I make Facebook posts promoting events on the venue’s page and boost them with Facebook’s ad manager. Learning how to use the ad manager was a valuable skill as you can advertise to custom audiences based on their location and interests.
What was your favorite part of the experience? My passion lies in music, so learning about new artists and being more involved with Tucson’s music community was fulfilling in itself.
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? My advice for students wanting to get a similar internship experience: instead of having the specific goal of getting an internship, try to become more intertwined with a community that you’re passionate about. You’ll be surprised at what opportunities arise organically through volunteering, attending events, or connecting through social media!
Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? No, my employer did not provide any housing or transportation assistance.
