Ipsita Chatterjee is a double major in Accounting and MIS and is graduating in May 2019. This summmer, Ipsita interned for KPMG as their Audit Intern in San Francisco, CA.
How did you get this internship? I got this internship by going to Meet the Firms and talking to the recruiters.
What was a typical day like? On a typical day, I would go to either the client site or the office (depending on what part of the audit the client was on, or if it is a bigger client you would most definitely be at the client site) and work on different tasks that the team needs. As an intern, we rotate clients every 2 weeks, so it is unlikely that you would get a large assignment that you can’t finish.
What was your favorite part of the experience? Getting to know all of the fellow interns and seniors that were all so easy to talk to and work with! The free food was pretty great too.
What did you find most challenging about your internship? The learning curve was definitely a challenge since every application KPMG uses was designed for KPMG specifically.
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? Talk to as many people as you can during recruiting events so when they see your resume, they will remember you from the event.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship? The excel skills we learn through Eller was #1 since that is what I used for the majority of my work. I used some other skills that we learned in BCOM such as writing emails and presenting yourself as a professional individual.
Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? Housing – my employer provided resources for me to secure housing and/or find a roommate.
