Lorenza Sharpe is a Pre-Business major and she will graduate in 2021. This summer, she interned for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix, Arizona as part of the Sales Development Staff. Even though she was not provided with housing or transportation, she enjoyed her time and felt that Chase Field was an amazing place to work.
How did you get this internship? I learned about this internship through the Sports Marketing Association and spontaneously decided to apply. After a rigorous application and interview process I was finally chosen as one of 15 interns for the staff.
What was your favorite part of the experience? My favorite part was getting to know my fellow interns and managers and learning about the different paths everyone took to get where they are today. It was also great to reach out to some employees in different departments such as marketing and communication and shadow them.
What did you find most challenging about your internship? I found it most challenging to make sales calls and come out of my shell when it came to talking to customers.
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? My advice would be to build your resume to stand out, and make sure to have some key features that are unique to you while also building many other useful skills.
Anything else you would like to share about your internship experience? Chase Field was truly an amazing place to work. Also, our managers actually cared about us and how we felt throughout the experience and made sure to help us get the most out of the experience.
