Patrick Thierry is a Finance major who will graduate in 2022. He interned this summer for CSAA Insurance Group as the Summer Rotational Intern in Walnut Creek, California.
How did you get this internship? I did a program called Junior Achievement in high school. CSAA hosted our program in one of their meeting rooms. There were also four mentors from CSAA who taught us how to develop our own business. As part of a continuation of the program, the mentors secured funding for one student to do a part-time internship at CSAA. All of the students of the program were allowed to apply and went through an interview process.
What was a typical day like? Each day was different. I attended meetings in many different departments. I also worked on numerous projects for each department.
If you worked on a big project, please describe it below: I did cost center analysis for Financial Planning and Analysis. There were numerous cost centers that had little to no expenses being sent to them. The analysts have to do allocations for those cost centers so if we close them down it makes their job easier. In total, I inactivated around 40 cost centers.
What did you find most challenging about your internship? The most challenging part was getting acclimated to a professional environment. I’ve never had any experience doing something like that before so it was difficult to adapt to it.
Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? No, my employer did not provide any housing or transportation assistance.
