Michael Foster is a Business Management major and will graduate in May of 2019. He interned this summer for Macy’s in the Store Management department. This internship was located in Oakbrook, Illinois.
What was your favorite part of the experience? Everyone I met while at Macy’s was genuinely excited to help me in my development and eager to help me grow. Having that support system with the management team from the beginning helped me to branch out and create new relationships with the entire Macy’s team.
What did you find most challenging about your internship? I was the type of person who would like to get everything done by myself and in this internship you learn quickly that it is not possible. Learning to rely on my team to get every task done each day was a challenge at first but as each day went by I continued to gain confidence in my team.
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? If you are looking for an internship in retail, Macy’s is the best in developing business acumen! You get a full understanding of the organization and the different expectations of each role within the company.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship? Eller over prepared me for my internship to say the least! After taking BCOM first semester of Eller and presenting almost everyday made presentations at Macy’s easy. The business acumen I’ve learned while here helped me excel from the start of my internship!
Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? No, my employer did not provide any housing or transportation assistance.
