Externship Spotlight – Annika Christensen, BDO

Eller PDC Coordinator Student Stories

Annika Christensen is an Accounting major who is expected to graduate in the spring of 2021. This winter break she had an externship with BDO in Phoenix, Arizona.

Please provide a brief description of what you did during your externship:

When all four of us externs arrived, breakfast was available for us to eat as we listened to a presentation on the company that included their values, culture, and logistics. Then, we were separated into groups of two and went around to different rooms to hear about three aspects of public accounting; audit, tax, and advisory. After spending roughly an hour and a half with those professionals, lunch was ready and we were able to network with other employees we hadn’t previously met. After that we were free to go.

Why did you want to do this externship?

I wanted to do this externship to see what working at a public accounting firm would be like, as I have never had the chance to experience this first hand.

Please describe your externship experience:

I spent a half day at BDO with three other externs. Our point of contact was Alysa Smith, however, we spent most of the day talking to other young professionals, many of then UA grads, who worked in the office. We met with six others to talk about audit, tax, and advisory.

What did you learn as a result of this externship?

I learned about audit, tax, and advisory at this externship.
