Externship Spotlight – George E. Njock III, Tivity Health

Eller PDC Coordinator Student Stories

George E. Njock III is a double major in MIS and Microbiology expected to graduate in December of 2019.  This winter break he had an externship with Tivity Health in Chandler, Arizona.

Please provide a brief description of what you did during your externship:

Throughout my time at Tivity Health I was afforded the opportunity to shadow the VP of Partner Relations (Caroline Khalil). Ms. Khalil provided me with some background of the company and allowed me to listen to her conference calls. I was also able to shadow an account manager to learn various aspects of the business. Last but not least, Ms. Khalil connected me with a couple of colleagues who currently work in the field I am most interested in, Data Analytics. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I am thankful for the opportunity Eller provided me.

Why did you want to do this externship?

I was interested in participating in an externship with Tivity Health due to my diverse background. I am double majoring in Management Information Systems and Microbiology. Tivity Health is a leading provider of fitness and health improvement programs, including their famous SilverSneakers. I thought it would be a great opportunity to learn more about healthcare and business.

Please describe your externship experience:

I was afforded the opportunity to shadow Caroline Khalil who is VP of Network Partnerships & Programming at Tivity Health. The externship lasted a full day in Chandler, Arizona. Throughout my time at Tivity Health I had the opportunity to listen to several conference calls, shadow an account manager, and also network with other employees in the business. During the meetings we discussed current/future products the company offers & future direction of Tivity Health. I had the opportunity to network with a couple individuals who work in the IT field. I learned more about data analytics and the impact data has on a business. Overall, my externship at Tivity Health was an excellent opportunity. I am thankful for the opportunity provided by Eller College of Management & Tivity Health.

What did you learn as a result of this externship?

I learned quite a bit during my externship! I learned more about Tivity Health and the products that they offer. I learned more about what i’m interested in doing and what steps I need to take in order to get there. I grew as a young professional.

Anything else you would like to share about your experience?

I would recommend an externship to anyone who is interested or curious in learning more about a particular field within business on a practical level. I would like to thank Eller College of Management and Tivity Health for the opportunity!
