Gisela Arvizu is an Accounting major set to graduate in the summer of 2019. She has recently been offered a full-time position at Tucson Electric Power (TEP) as a Finance Rotational Associate in Tucson, Arizona.
How did you find this position?
I found this position through their internship program. I’ve been an intern for the internal audit department since November 2018.
Tell us about the process of interviewing with this company.
The interviewing processes was much different from other interviews I had done before. They don’t expect you to know everything or have an answer to every question, they expect you to be open minded and willing to learn and work as a team. The interview for the internship took about 30 minutes. They asked behavioral questions and related work experience. The following interview which was for the full-time position was more based on my experience with the company, what have I learned and where do I see myself in the future. That interview took about 45 minutes. For both interviews, I had a panel of 6 people interviewing me from various departments. Overall, a friendly and happy environment. I expected the interview to be really formal but ended up being a talk and I learned that that is the best approach when someone want to get to know you better.
What previous experience have you had that you think contributed to your success securing this position?
Since my first semester in college, I’ve had 2 part time jobs and been a full time student. Overall what I think contributed more to my success in securing this position was being able to show commitment and responsibility while being a student. Secondly, was my volunteer activities and my involvement in clubs which also demonstrates that you want to help the community which is really important in the work place. All these activities have led to a better time management, organization and overall communication skills.
What are you most looking forward to about your position/company?
I’m definitely excited for this new stage in my career. The best part of this company is that they are innovative and are always looking for new opportunities for both the company and their employees. I believe TEP will give me the ability to grow both personal and professional. At the same time this position will give me the opportunity to explore more than one department and learn how and why they do certain things. I can resume all this from my experience as an intern, I’m also excited to work with people that love what they do and are willing to teach others and working with a company that cares for their employees in many ways.
