Amanda Maxwell is a Marketing major set to graduate in May 2020. This past summer she was an intern for Mars Petcare as a Sales and Marketing Intern in Phoenix, Arizona.
How did you get this internship?
Back in October, my career coach Javier Smith sent me an email that he thought I would be interested in this internship. I ended up going to their information session where I got to meet several people from the company and hear about the history of Mars. The next day I interviewed and found out a month or two later that I had the internship! The company then sent me on a celebratory trip to New Jersey to see the Wrigley side of the business and celebrate my acceptance of the internship offer!
What was your favorite part of the experience?
My favorite part of the internship was all the amazing opportunities I was given in a short 11 week period. To list a few, I was able to learn my role quickly by being immersed in advanced trainings, collaborate with one of our retailers, PetSmart, to help enhance their shopper experience, and embody the Mars culture by volunteering at a Mastiff Rescue.
If you worked on a big project, please describe it below:
I worked with my teammates to create a sales plan for Mars 2020 innovation products. These are new products being released to the market, and we had to use our data findings to tell an impactful story as to why these products should be released. We had the opportunity to present our sales plan presentation to the Phoenix office, a retail buyer at PetSmart, and senior leadership at the headquarters in Nashville, TN.
What did you find most challenging about your internship?
The most challenging part about my internship was having to learn and adapt so quickly. Coming in and knowing absolutely nothing, I had to learn how to analyze sales data at a fast pace. The trainings I went through and the help I received made everything so much easier. Now looking back, it is amazing to see how fast I learned and how far I have come in such a short period of time!
How did Eller prepare you for your internship?
Eller did an amazing job preparing me for my internship. My team and I presented several times over the course of the internship, and we had so many compliments on our presentation skills!
Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance?
Housing – my employer provided housing,Housing – my employer provided financial assistance for housing and/or moving
