Internship Spotlight – Kayla Gooding, Enterprise Holdings

Eller PDC Coordinator Student Stories

Kayla Gooding is a Business Management major graduating in December 2020.  This past summer she interned for Enterprise Holdings as a Management Trainee in Tucson, Arizona.

How did you get this internship?

I went to the Eller Career Fair and meet with Kaylin who was one of their Talent Acquisition Specialist. She reached back out to me a few days later with an interview time and I went through two interviews as well as a day of shadowing before I was offered the position.

What was a typical day like?

A typical day consisted of me checking in customers whether it be that they needed a car for the day while their vehicle was getting serviced or for a week-long vacation to California.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of the internship would have to be all of the different people that I meet throughout my time at the company. Every day was so much different from the other, you never knew what was going to come at you and you really had to be able to think on your feet and make sure the customers were leaving completely satisfied.

If you worked on a big project, please describe it below:

Over the course of the internship, I was asked to think of something that would improve the branch where I worked. Throughout my first month, it came very clear to me that they were struggling to get car sales leads. I decided to create a competition between the employees who could send over the most car sales during the month of July. During that month the numbers jumped from 2.5% to 5.9%!

What did you find most challenging about your internship?

It was very hot throughout my time with the company and a lot of your time is spent outside. But after the first couple of weeks, you get used to it and you are getting a good experience from it so you really forget about how hot it is!

What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship?

Be available, reach out to the companies and ask a lot of questions. Do not be afraid of going out of your comfort zone.

How did Eller prepare you for your internship?

Eller was such a huge help with my internship from the Career Fair to all of the Counselors and Career Coaches who looked over my resumes and cover letters for the different internships that I applied for.
