Jaya Thanikachalam is an Accounting and MIS double major set to graduate in May 2020. This summer she interned for PwC as a Risk Assurance Intern in Phoenix, Arizona.
How did you get this internship?
I’ve been networking with the PwC campus recruiter and professionals since my freshman year through the PwC Connect Program and this is when I learned about Elevate, the externship/leadership development program. I applied to Elevate my sophomore year and it was an interactive program to learn about the company culture and meet professionals and other participants in the Southwest market. I got a call the day after Elevate and received an internship offer for the next year!
What was your favorite part of the experience?
Before the internship began, we had a week of training in LA to learn about the job and expectations of interns. We got the opportunity to meet all other interns in the Southwest market and foster meaningful relationships. Of course, the trip to Disney World to celebrate the end of the internship was also an unforgettable experience!
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship?
It’s never too early to start attending career fairs and networking! I’ve built my network with PwC since freshman year, so it was easy for me to get along with everyone when I started the internship. As much as you are looking for internships, companies are also looking for qualified students who fit their company culture.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship?
I utilized so many skills I learned from BCOM 314 like email etiquette, presentation formatting, and interpersonal communication since all the projects I worked on were in teams. Furthermore, this internship directly applied the concepts I learned in ACCT 461. I’m thankful Eller prepared me with a strong skill set to successfully complete the internship and receive a full-time offer.
