Internship Spotlight – Tyler Manfrin, GEICO

Eller PDC Coordinator Student Stories

Tyler Manfrin is a Business Management major set to graduate in May 2020.  This summer he interned for GEICO as a Business Leadership Intern in Tucson, Arizona.

How did you get this internship?

I got this internship through Delta Sigma Pi and Handshake. GEICO is a national sponsor of DSP and so the regional recruiter from Tucson came and presented to our chapter, and she happened to be a DSP brother from our very own chapter. So that initial connection was established, then she reached out to me on Handshake where I applied and received the offer for the internship.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of the experience was meeting all the amazing people who work at GEICO. The company culture is absolutely unmatched and every connection I made was meaning and genuine. Walking into the building and have upper-management coming to say hi to you was such a cool experience which made me feel valued within the company, even as just an intern.

If you worked on a big project, please describe it below:

Throughout the eight-weeks, my team and I worked on a Hiring project where we looked at the way GEICO recruits candidates for their Management Development Program from out-of-city and out-of-state. We researched their recruiting tactics, what they’ve done in the past, what schools they recruit from, what benefits they offer, the interview process, etc. In the end, we presented to upper-management and all of the intern class.

How did Eller prepare you for your internship?

Eller helped incredibly to prepare me for the recruiting process and the internship itself. Being involved within Eller is super important, as you gain valuable knowledge from multiple different clubs and organizations. DSP trained me to do well in interviews, be able to network, and have efficient time-management skills. Also, making a strong connection with one or multiple faculty members within Eller is extremely beneficial. Nancy Meech and Dave Wietecha is an absolute saint and provides nothing but support in any endeavor of life, whether that be professional help or personal motivation.

Anything else you would like to share about your internship experience?

I received a full-time offer for their Emerging Leader Program (the upper-level program of the two).
