Alejandro Murillo is an Accounting major set to graduate in May 2020. This summer he interned with EY as a Launch Intern in New York, New York.
How did you get this internship?
The EY recruiter reached out to her contacts in the NY office to see if they had any available spots, seeing that they did, I was able to submit an application and participate in several interviews.
What was a typical day like?
Everyday was different. I was able to rotate between the service lines of audit and tax. Depending on the client and the deadlines I would update files, prepare work papers, prepare tax forms, update excel, among various other jobs.
What did you find most challenging about your internship?
What I found challenging is being confident enough to ask questions! I thought that I was bothering the full time employees but then I realized that they wanted me to do a good job and wanted to teach me. Also making sure that I was being authentic and myself while still being professional. I found that when I expressed myself I made the most connections with other interns and full time employees.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship?
BCOM was very helpful! I found myself communicating and writing a lot so having that sense of professional writing under my belt made me feel comfortable! My accounting courses were also a very strong foundation to understand the principles of the job!
