Nicole Deffley is a Business Management major set to graduate in May 2020. This summer she interned for General Atomics Aeronautical Systems as a Capital Expenditure Management Intern in San Diego, California.
What was a typical day like?
My typical day consisted of using Microsoft Excel to manage cost, schedule, and performance of the companies capital projects to ensure they are on track. I also attended meetings with internal groups to communicate any accomplishments or potential risks and issues with their capital projects.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
My favorite part of my internship was getting tours of the facilities where the unmanned vehicles (drones) were being built.
If you worked on a big project, please describe it below:
I was responsible for accurately entering capital expenditure requests on behalf of internal stakeholders for executive management approval. These included requests from groups such as Flight Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, etc.
How did Eller prepare you for your internship?
Eller prepared me for my internship because of the presentations we gave in BCOM 314. I gave a presentation at the end of the summer summarizing what projects I worked on and what I learned from them.
