Eller Expo Success Guide

Eller PDC Coordinator Student Stories

Getting ready to attend the Virtual Eller Expo? Make sure you are prepared before, during, and after Expo with these tips.

BEFORE Monday:

Register for the Fair in Handshake

  1. Update your Handshake Profile and Upload your resume.
Be sure the information below is accurate (some will be auto-filled through UAccess):

    • Grad Year, School Year, Major, Work Auth, GPA
  2. Sign up for 30 minute Group Session or 10 minute one-on-one session in advance to ensure your spot – if an employer doesn’t have sessions available now it doesn’t mean that they are full – it may mean they haven’t scheduled sessions yet. Additional spots may be added the day of the event. If you sign up for a spot you are committed to joining at that time.
  3. Now that you are signed up, get ready to connect
    • Do Your Research
Asking thoughtful questions about specific roles or the company itself will help you stand out and show your interest in applying.
    • Know Yourself
Practice your elevator pitch beforehand to ensure that you always begin every conversation with a great first impression.
    • Dress for Success
Set out your appropriate interview attire (business professional attire) and plan out your spot with a clean background (virtual backgrounds won’t work in this system), in a quiet environment.

Eller Professional Development Center is hosting Virtual Drop-In Career Coaching before the fair from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. In eSMS click “add yourself to the queue” then for the service select “Virtual Drop-In Professional Development Center.” We can help with last-minute questions, resume checks, and give you a chance to practice your elevator pitch.

  1. Arrive Prepared
    • Test technology:
    • Before your 1-on-1 session:
      • Message the employer with your resume or a link to your LinkedIn/Handshake profile.
    • Join your session:
      • Click “Your Sessions” or “Show open sessions” to sign up for any open spots.
      • Click “Launch Video” button (and check your audio/video settings) – This is an EXTRA button to join. When you see yourself in the video, you still need to click the “join” button.
      • You may join your session up to 5 minutes before the scheduled time.
      • Be on time. Group session lock out participants after the first 10 minutes.
      • You will be muted when you first join, so don’t forget to unmute before you introduce yourself.
      • 1-on-1 sessions have a 1-minute warning before your time is up.
    • Having trouble during the fair? Join this meeting for quick help: https://arizona.zoom.us/j/91694223530
  2. Take Notes
Be sure you record important interview dates and application deadlines that you should know going forward.
  3. Network
If you have extra time, join in an information session with a company you don’t know much about — you might be surprised what you learn!

  1. Relax — you survived!
You should be proud of making time
  2. Say Thank You
Be sure to thank employers for their time after every introduction and ask about the next steps in the application process.
  3. Follow-Up
Reach out to any employers you met and thank them again for speaking with you. Showing this kind of initiative can help you stand out from the crowd.
