Thomas Packer is a Finance major set to graduate in May of 2022. This summer he interned as a Revenue Operations Intern for Guild Education in Denver, Colorado.
What was the process for getting this internship, job, or summer experience?
My boss from the previous summer at Ping Identity moved to Guild Education and I reached out to him during the semester to see if he was hiring. I was lucky enough for him to bring me onto his team as an intern with all of what was going on in the world.
What was a typical day like?
The first two weeks were all on-boarding sessions that included meeting with all different aspects of the company. They would train us how to do their job and what it entailed. The remaining time at Guild I was given three major projects. The morning would typically be a meeting to check in on my project and the middle of the day would be working time. The end of the day I was lucky enough to jump on all types of different calls including sales calls and more.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
My favorite part of the experience was being able to learn about all the different areas of the company. It really gave me insight on what I liked and did not like.
If you worked on a big project, please describe it below:
I worked to create a step by step forecasting process. The company is new and growing fast and the way that they forecast was never put on paper. It was a complicated process, so I was told to make it more automatic and put it on paper.
What did you find most challenging?
I found working online to be most challenging.
What did you learn?
I learned all about how to sell as well as what all areas of the company do. I also was able to take my first look at what it takes to forecast.
What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar experience, or advice for future students to be successful?
I would just say that if you work hard the people above you will notice it and will vouch for you in the future.
How did Eller prepare you for this experience?
Eller did a great job with helping me prepare for my interview. They gave me all the tools to have a great resume and cover letter as well as the skills to be successful during the interview.
Did you feel supported by the company or organization you worked with?
The company I worked with was amazing. They were extremely inclusive and you would never of been able to tell I was an intern. They treated me with the upmost respect and wanted me to succeed.
